Sensory Integration Trail

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASensory Integration is an integral part of any therapy, and with horse-centered therapy¬† it’s especially important. We strive to help our participants experience different challenges on the trail that can help with problem-solving, personal interactions, muscle and core strength and decision making. All activities on the Healing Reins Sensory Integration Trail encourage sight, smell, hearing and touch while presenting learning opportunities in new, fun and exciting ways. All of the stations are accessible from horseback and the outdoor setting is refreshing and enjoyable for everyone. The trail is a especially valuable for our Hippotherapy clients, for whom movement is a crucial part of therapy. Volunteers and riders alike love the challenge of new obstacles and games that our instructors create, and the beautiful Central Oregon scenery, with Mt Bachelor standing tall in the distance.

Designed and constructed by Mark McGarigal and the Summit High School Advanced Biology Class and Roots & Shoots Program, the trail is also made possible by the following station sponsors, volunteers and donors:
