HISTORY

Healing Reins Therapeutic Riding Center was founded in 1999 by accomplished Central Oregon equestrian, Pamela Addington.  After viewing a demonstration of therapeutic riding in Idaho, Addington was determined to bring this unique service to Central Oregon.

Her dream came true in 1999 when a local equestrian center donated one day per week to Healing Reins Therapeutic Riding Center.  Starting the program with 4 riders and 12 volunteers, awareness of Healing Reins services quickly grew, and an arena of its own became necessary.

Healing Reins relocated to Faith Run Farms, a beautiful 20 acre parcel in southeast Bend, in 2001.  At the new location, which offers both an ADA approved facility and an outdoor arena with beautiful views of the Oregon Cascades, Healing Reins Therapeutic Riding Center has been able to expand, and today serves more than 80 special needs and at-risk riders per week. Often using more than 140 volunteers each week, Healing Reins continues to rely heavily on community for support both in the arena and other areas of its daily operations.

In addition to providing volunteer support, the Central Oregon community contributes generously to Healing Reins through grant support, annual giving, and donations to our annual fundraiser, Diamonds & Dust.

Healing Reins Therapeutic Riding Center is a 501 © 3 non- profit organization, and
in 2001 earned its distinguished status as a North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) Premier Accredited Center. As a NARHA Premier Center, Healing Reins is nationally recognized for its excellence in providing professional therapeutic riding instruction.

While the center continues to grow, providing new and exciting opportunities in therapeutic riding to special needs individuals in our community, we will remain dedicated to our values of: Safety, Respect, Compassion, Excellence and Honesty
as we continue in our mission “…. to heal with horses.”
