My name is Alex and I’m 18-years old. In the last six years, my family has had many struggles, with mom having a stroke (leaving her homebound and unable to walk or talk), dad having four blood clots and nearly passing away last year, and legal difficulties that led us to bankruptcy. We have had a heck of a time with insurance companies and finding financial help just to pay our bills. The stress of everything has ripped my family apart. My dad no longer lives with us.
But in these last few months, working with my horse Bella at Healing Reins, I have FINALLY found a respite from the “real world”—I’ve found peace and something to look forward to. I always talk about how excited I am to see Bella and how calming it is to be with her. It’s only once a week, but it’s the best hour of my entire week. Working with my trainer Jess, and my volunteer leaders Bill and Justin, make it worth me getting through life until my next lesson.
Your donations are the reason I have something to look forward to. The reason I can afford to be with Bella. The reason I have the CHANCE to be happy again. It truly means the world to me. So, from my heart to yours, thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Bella came to Healing Reins in response to our need for a horse who could handle our larger teen and adult riders. She has risen to the occasion and is known as “Big, Beautiful, and Brave, Bella Brown from Downtown.” One of her riders gave her that name, and it has stuck ever since!
