Occupational Therapy

Through a collaborative relationship with Treehouse Therapies, Healing Reins offers pediatric occupational therapy that utilize horses and the farm setting as treatment tool. Clients spend 30 minutes with the horse before going to the clinic for the second 30-minute half of their session.

Occupational therapists use the walking patterns of the horse as part of their integrated plan of care.  The rhythmic motion of the horse paired with other standard intervention strategies helps clients to improve fine motor control, sensory integration, play and social skills, attending to tasks, self-regulation, and daily living skills in a progressively challenging manner.

Conditions/diagnoses that can benefit from occupational therapy using the movement of the horse include, but are not limited to: Spina Bifida, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Downs Syndrome, Dyspraxia, Hypotonia, Developmental Delay, Cerebral Palsy, Sensory Processing Disorder, and Traumatic Brain Injury.
